Analog security camera systems have been in existence for very many years. As such, they were the only option for home and business owners who needed surveillance camera systems to protect their property and valuables. However, the introduction of IP Cameras has given the modern consumer more variety and enabled them to deploy a wide selection of surveillance applications. The big question is, are IP security cameras the better option? The answer is simply, Yes!

The Benefits of IP Cameras vs. Analog cameras

Obsolescence: Analog technology is basically outdated. Analog cameras capture raw video and send it as an analog signal to the bulky video tape recorders, or DVRs for conversion to digitalip cameras format before storage.  This leads to low quality video and makes retrieval very tedious.  The rapid growth of IP technology has seen most surveillance camera and equipment manufacturers switch from analog to IP technology, owing to the bright prospects that IP technology offers.

Remote Access: With IP technology, users can access their surveillance video from any location. All that a user requires to view his/her security footage remotely is an internet connection and computer or a range of internet-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. This is unlike the analog camera systems, which are essentially stand-alone systems, and can only be accessed when the user is onsite.

Megapixel Resolution: IP Cameras provide high quality video images, with resolutions of up to 10MP. The higher resolutions make IP surveillance systems ideal for advanced security applications such as facial recognition and vehicle number plate recognition.

Network Infrastructure: IP grade cameras run on the regular computer networks. As such, users do not need to run new wires or setup a separate network. They can simply plug in their security cameras and other equipment into their existing home or business networks and have their surveillance system up and running within no time.

Integration: Most modern security and business systems support IP technology. As such, it is very easy to integrate IP Cameras with other systems including access control and alarm installations.

Overall, it is obvious that IP Cameras are a better option!
